In 10 days we were engaged…

We had breakfast, lunch, dinner, shakes, drove around town like tourists and it was the holiday season. We made time for each other every single day that passed. By our third date which was the day before New Years Eve, we shared I love you’s over lemonade. That’s the day you see in the picture above this text. By our fifth date, over morning coffee, he told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and if this wasn’t real for me, that to just let him know, because he was very much serious about the whole thing.

He didn’t know that I was too. The timing was just right. I said yes. It seemed I had read Shonda Rhimes’ book “Year of Yes” recently because it was my answer to everything! But, I was certain. My gut said yes, my heart said yes, my mind said yes and we both knew we couldn’t resist the amount of love we had for each other from the moment we met. I told my mom I was engaged that same day and a day later, my mom and his mom met over dinner. It was my first time meeting her as well and it was just an amazing night. With cuban food and music and the energy was easy. I wasn’t worried about anything and neither was he.

Two days after, my sister, my mom, baby Brandon, him and me, we were out looking for wedding venues. That’s right! We found our venue before the ring. I also found my dress the week after. Wild! If you were to tell me this story, I’d think you’re insane because I prepare for everything. I’m beyond outlined and predictable that I would not believe this was me in the future.

The following week, he was over my house, we were having bbq, babysitting Brandon and at some point we grabbed my laptop and were looking at options for rings. I knew the style I liked but my mom told us why don’t you go to the mall and try them on instead. We were like “sure we have nothing to do, it’s not like we’re getting it that same day”.

We got to the mall, I’m in sweats, he’s in shorts, we entered the jewelry store and as I glanced over the glass with all the shiny diamonds underneath it, I found this simple yet elegant and classy ring. It just looked vintage and yet I couldn’t explain it but it was mine. It was the one I wanted. I pointed it out, I tried it on. He asked me is this the one you want? Are you sure? I said yes (the word of the year). I left that evening in sweats and all, with an engagement ring. When we got to my house, we were alone in the kitchen and he got on one knee and he told me that he loved me and couldn’t imagine his life without me and asked me to marry him officially and it was a no brainer. We had our private photoshoot over the kitchen counter and we spent the rest of the evening on the couch, watching a movie. He fell asleep for a while and then went home.

I remember the next day while I was trying on wedding dresses, the ring slid through my finger and fell on the car seat that I was on and I knew I had to get it resized. I gave him back the ring and remembered saying, let’s get it fixed, when it’s ready, you give it to me how you want to, the way you imagined giving it to me.

It was such a big secret for us to hold, being that we worked in the same place, and so many people knew us, but didn’t know we were even together.
